Job Overview/Summary:

The Ultrasound Assistant will play a vital role in supporting the Obstetric Ultrasound and Pregnancy Screening Service by performing clinical support duties including taking blood samples, assisting with patient care, and providing mentorship to students or new staff members. This is a varied and patient-focused role requiring direct patient interaction and the ability to adapt to service needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Take blood samples to support the Obstetric Ultrasound / Pregnancy Screening Service.

  • Mentor and support students or new members of staff as required.

  • Provide patient-centered care in a professional and compassionate manner.

  • Maintain a high standard of service delivery in line with departmental protocols.

  • Ensure patient comfort, safety, and dignity at all times.

Primary Skills:

  • Proficiency in patient care procedures.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for direct patient contact.

  • Ability to work effectively within a hospital or clinical setting.

  • Competence in blood collection (venipuncture).

Secondary Skills (Good to Have):

  • Knowledge of radiology department operations.

  • Familiarity with hospital IT/RIS systems.

  • Experience in cannulation.

  • Ability to set up sterile trolleys.

  • Prior experience in a care environment.

Qualifications:

  • Essential: NVQ Level 2 equivalent or 4–5 GCSE grades A–C.

  • Desirable: NVQ Level 3 or equivalent (2 A Levels) in Health, Social Care, or a related subject.
