Job Title: System Physician Executive

Job Overview/Summary:

We are seeking a visionary and experienced System Physician Executive to lead and advance our Hospital Based Medicine (HBM) program. This role will be responsible for setting clinical direction, implementing care management initiatives, and driving innovation to ensure the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective care across a complex health system.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Hospital Based Medicine Institute.

  • Serve as the primary physician leader, guiding the execution of clinical best practices and cost-effective care delivery.

  • Supervise and mentor interdisciplinary clinical teams.

  • Collaborate with health system leadership on budgeting, governance, and strategic decision-making.

  • Advocate for quality improvement, equity, and diversity across the organization.

  • Participate in and promote provider education, mentoring, and scholarly activities.

Primary Skills:

  • Leadership in hospital medicine or service line roles (e.g., director, chief, chair).

  • Implementation of clinical best practices and quality initiatives (HEDIS, NCQA, CMS, etc.).

  • Strong communication and presentation skills across all audience levels.

  • Ability to guide interdisciplinary teams with collegial leadership and influence.

Secondary Skills (Good to Have):

  • Experience in board governance, conflict resolution, and negotiation.

  • Dashboard analytics and performance reporting experience.

  • Experience in academic and community medicine operational challenges.

  • Background in mentoring students, residents, and fellows.

Qualifications:

  • Medical Doctorate (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from an accredited institution.

  • Board Certified in Internal Medicine.

  • Current medical license in North Carolina.

  • Minimum of 10 years of leadership in multidisciplinary Hospital Based Medicine programs.

  • Demonstrated experience with capital/operating budgets and organizational alignment.
