Job Overview/Summary:
We are seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to lead and innovate in the development of robust and scalable backend systems for the Lightning Platform. This role involves designing critical production services, solving complex infrastructure problems, and driving engineering excellence. The ideal candidate thrives in entrepreneurial environments and will be instrumental in shaping the platform’s future to support global expansion and mass adoption.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, architecture, and scaling of critical production services, ensuring both immediate goals and long-term scalability.
- Develop a deep understanding of Lightning and collaborate with the broader community to drive protocol-level improvements.
- Build and extend a rich services layer to support diverse use cases, fostering mass adoption of Lightning.
- Develop frameworks for collecting and analyzing Lightning data, leveraging insights to enhance performance.
- Drive advanced functionality to solve next-generation challenges and expand Lightning’s reach.
- Act as a technical mentor, fostering a culture of continuous learning and excellence within the engineering team.
Primary Skills:
- 10+ years of experience in infrastructure or backend engineering, with expertise in leading large-scale projects.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Rust, Go, and Python.
- Proven ability to design and implement complex distributed systems and large-scale services.
- Experience writing high-quality, well-tested, and scalable code.
- Strong data-driven approach, using metrics to guide decision-making and system performance improvements.
Secondary Skills (Good to Have):
- Familiarity with modern cloud infrastructure and deployment solutions (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, AWS).
- Experience architecting and maintaining cloud-based systems at scale.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent experience.
- Non-traditional backgrounds with demonstrated technical excellence are highly valued.
- Demonstrated technical leadership experience, including mentoring, roadmap guidance, and fostering team innovation.
