Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced SMT Process Engineer to join our client, a cutting-edge electronic manufacturing provider. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in Surface Mount Technology (SMT) processes, with experience in programming, debugging, and troubleshooting SMT equipment. This role requires a deep understanding of SMT machinery functions and a commitment to continuous improvement in manufacturing processes.
 
Responsibilities:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Acquire a basic working knowledge of company services to assist staff with various functions.
Knowledge of all SMT equipment and experience programming printers, SPI, pick and place, reflow ovens, and AOI.
Learn and understand programming and debugging oven reflow profiles.
Develop a technical understanding of machinery functions—mechanically, electrically, and in terms of software.
Learn troubleshooting capabilities.
Understand IPC and J-STD classifications.
Write pre- and post-build DFM reports.
Conduct defect review/root cause analysis with resolution.
Provide programming and technical support for Selective and Wave solder processes.
Interpret 2D and 5DX x-ray images (programming experience is a plus).
Understand label creation programming and barcodes.
Maintain organization and professionalism at all times.
Collaborate with other engineers and floor personnel.
Learn stencil design using Gerbers, CAD, and other design tools.
Learn rework processes including hot air, BGA repair, PCA cleaning, and routine solder iron rework.
AutoCAD or SolidWorks experience/knowledge is a plus.
Interpret assembly and fab drawings and understand the requirements within.
Work directly with the customer’s engineering group to improve designs and enhance processes.
 
Primary Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Strong technical background in SMT equipment and processes.
Experience programming SMT machinery (printers, SPI, pick and place, reflow ovens, AOI).
Knowledge of IPC and J-STD classifications.
Ability to conduct defect review/root cause analysis and provide resolutions.
Strong understanding of reflow profiles, stencil design, and rework processes.
 
Secondary Skills (Good to Have):
Experience with 2D and 5DX x-ray image interpretation.
Programming experience for Selective and Wave solder processes.
Knowledge of label creation programming and barcodes.
Experience with AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
Familiarity with circuit card and box build assemblies.
 
Qualifications:
Associate’s and/or B.A./B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
At least 5 years of on-the-job experience in the same or a similar industry.
Demonstrated positive customer service demeanor.
Superior written and oral communication skills.
Strong technical background with an understanding of circuit card and box build assemblies.
