Job Overview/Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Nocturnist Physician to provide overnight inpatient medical coverage. Working in collaboration with the nocturnist Advanced Practice Provider (APP) team, the Nocturnist will manage admissions and deliver high-quality care to patients admitted to Med-Surg, Transitional Care Unit (TCU), and Medical ICU units during evening and overnight hours from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate and manage hospital admissions during overnight hours in collaboration with the nocturnist APP team.

  • Perform comprehensive initial patient assessments, including obtaining pertinent medical and non-medical histories and conducting physical examinations.

  • Order, review, and interpret diagnostic tests, including laboratory and imaging studies.

  • Initiate and manage pharmacological therapies based on clinical findings and established protocols.

  • Execute complex medical decision-making for acutely ill and medically complex patients.

  • Consult and collaborate with a diverse group of specialists to ensure coordinated and effective patient care.

  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients and their families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, and care progression.

  • Perform procedures as clinically indicated (procedural skills desired).

  • Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant medical documentation.

  • Adhere to hospital policies, clinical guidelines, and patient safety standards.

Primary Skills:

  • Inpatient nocturnist care

  • Acute and critical care management

  • Clinical assessment and diagnostic interpretation

  • Complex medical decision-making

  • Interdisciplinary collaboration

  • Effective patient and family communication

Secondary Skills (Good to Have):

  • Procedural competence (e.g., central lines, intubation)

  • Experience working with APP teams

  • ICU or step-down unit experience

  • Rapid response and code team participation

Qualifications:

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine

  • Active and unrestricted medical license

  • ACLS certification (required or preferred per facility policy)

  • Eligibility for hospital privileges
