Job Overview: The GIS Manager provides leadership, direction, and support to the GIS Division of the Department of Technology Services. This role is responsible for managing GIS workflow and projects, designing and implementing GIS applications and programs, preparing and monitoring the GIS budget, and supervising GIS team members. The GIS Manager will consult with Denton County departments and agencies on GIS use, provide training, and maintain high standards for GIS data accuracy and utility. This position requires strong communication skills, excellent customer service, and the ability to resolve problems effectively.
 
 
 
Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and manage the county-wide GIS program.
Supervise GIS staff, including task prioritization, performance evaluation, and professional development.
Manage GIS projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance with county-wide GIS requirements.
Design, test, operate, document, and maintain GIS applications and systems.
Oversee the development and maintenance of geospatial data layers and databases.
Provide technical guidance and training on GIS-related topics to staff and other users.
Advise and consult with departments on GIS technology and application design.
Lead the design and development of GIS tools for process automation and analysis.
Manage the GIS Division budget and monitor expenditures.
Represent the county on committees and advisory groups related to GIS.
Perform fieldwork to gather geographic information and ensure data accuracy.
Ensure compliance with information security regulations and best practices.
 
Primary Skills:
Expertise in managing and implementing GIS programs.
Proficiency in GIS software and applications.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Effective communication and customer service skills.
 
Secondary Skills (Good to Have):
Project management experience, including the use of project management software.
Experience with E-911 addressing and public communication systems.
Familiarity with compliance regulations such as CJIS and HIPAA.
 
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Minimum of five years of experience in GIS or a related field, with at least one year in a supervisory role.
Geographic Information Systems Professional (GISP) certification preferred.
No Class B misdemeanor or higher convictions or deferred adjudications.
