Job Overview/Summary:

The General Surgeon is responsible for providing comprehensive surgical and perioperative care, including evaluation, diagnosis, surgical intervention, and post-operative management for patients with a wide range of medical conditions. This role requires strong clinical expertise, adherence to ethical and regulatory standards, and effective collaboration with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure high-quality patient outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform surgical procedures and provide pre-operative and post-operative patient care.

  • Evaluate patients through medical history review, physical examination, and diagnostic testing.

  • Diagnose medical and surgical conditions and develop appropriate treatment plans.

  • Prescribe medications and non-pharmaceutical treatments and educate patients on proper usage.

  • Monitor patient progress, document clinical findings, and modify treatment plans as needed.

  • Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation in compliance with legal, ethical, and regulatory requirements.

  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals to ensure continuity of care.

  • Supervise, advise, and train clinical professionals, residents, and/or students.

  • Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and infection control standards.

  • Participate in accreditation, certification, and quality improvement initiatives as required.

Primary Skills:

  • Surgical evaluation and operative expertise

  • Clinical diagnosis and treatment planning

  • Patient assessment and monitoring

  • Medication management and prescribing

  • Quality, safety, and infection control compliance

  • Effective verbal and written communication

Secondary Skills (Good to Have):

  • Experience supervising or mentoring clinical staff or trainees

  • Familiarity with community-based diagnostic and patient care services

  • Participation in accreditation or quality improvement programs

  • Multidisciplinary team collaboration experience

Qualifications:

  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution

  • Board Certification from one of the following (as applicable):

    • American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)

    • National Board of Physicians and Surgeons (NBPAS)

    • American Osteopathic Association (AOA)

    • National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME)

  • Active or eligible medical licensure in one or more of the following states:

    • Arkansas (Arkansas State Medical Board)

    • Mississippi (Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure)

    • Tennessee (Tennessee State Board of Medical Examiners or Tennessee Board of Osteopathic Examination)

  • Knowledge of legal, ethical, and regulatory standards for medical care
