Job Overview/Summary:
Pulivarthi Group is seeking an experienced Sr. Unix Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing and maintaining Unix/Linux servers, ensuring system performance, security, and scalability. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong troubleshooting abilities, and leadership skills to guide junior team members and drive critical infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain Unix/Linux servers, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability.
  • Monitor and optimize system performance, addressing bottlenecks and planning for capacity.
  • Architect and implement Unix/Linux solutions to support business objectives, ensuring scalability and high availability.
  • Deploy and configure new servers and services as needed.
  • Develop and maintain scripts (using Bash, Python, Perl, etc.) to automate tasks, deployments, and monitoring.
  • Implement infrastructure-as-code (IaC) using tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
  • Ensure systems adhere to company security policies and compliance standards (e.g., PCI, GDPR, HIPAA).
  • Apply patches and updates to address vulnerabilities.
  • Provide advanced troubleshooting for hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Act as a technical lead, mentoring junior engineers and sharing expertise with the team.

Job Duties/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of experience in Unix/Linux system administration and engineering.
  • Strong expertise in Unix/Linux distributions (e.g., Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu, AIX, or Solaris).
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl.
  • Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
  • Hands-on experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, KVM) and container platforms (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Deep understanding of TCP/IP, networking protocols, and firewall configurations.
  • Familiarity with storage systems and backup solutions.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot complex systems and applications.
  • Strong knowledge of security best practices and compliance standards.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Knowledge of databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) and associated tuning.
