Job Overview/Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Specifications Writer to join our client’s growing team. This role is focused on creating and coordinating architectural, engineering, and interior design specifications, with a particular emphasis on projects in the healthcare sector. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with excellent communication skills to ensure accuracy and quality in all documentation.
Responsibilities:
- Interpret architectural, engineering, and interior design plans to prepare material lists and specifications for contractors.
- Analyze plans, diagrams, and materials to draft comprehensive specifications for building construction activities.
- Write technical descriptions specifying material qualities and properties, leveraging knowledge of material standards and construction procedures.
- Conduct quality reviews of construction documents and prepare detailed specifications.
- Research and maintain up-to-date knowledge of available products and materials, developing the firm’s library of resources.
- Prepare project manuals, including general conditions, with a thorough understanding of CCDC contracts and supplementary conditions.
- Coordinate printing orders for progress and bid sets, ensuring timely distribution of signed and sealed documents.
- Collaborate with project teams to develop specification requirements throughout project phases.
- Mentor staff on technical and specification-related issues, functioning as a resource for the team.
- Stay updated on product developments, new materials, code changes, and industry trends.
Primary Skills:
- Extensive knowledge of building codes, industry standards, and material standards.
- Strong technical writing skills with the ability to develop accurate and detailed specifications.
- Expertise in construction documentation and quality review processes.
- Familiarity with CCDC contracts and supplementary conditions.
Secondary Skills (Good to Have):
- LEED AP and RSW certification.
- Membership in Construction Specifications Canada (CSC).
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology, or a related construction field.
- Previous experience in the healthcare construction sector is a significant asset.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, FTP programs, and SharePoint.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with Project Managers and contractors.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in fast-paced settings.
