Job Summary:
We are recruiting a Senior Paper Engineer to join our Paper Technical Center team, a part of our corporate central capability group. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise to various paper-making assets across Georgia Pacific's North America facilities. This role involves diagnosing operational issues, leading improvement initiatives, and developing technical skills in others. The position is remote but requires regular domestic travel.
We are recruiting a Senior Paper Engineer to join our Paper Technical Center team, a part of our corporate central capability group. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise to various paper-making assets across Georgia Pacific's North America facilities. This role involves diagnosing operational issues, leading improvement initiatives, and developing technical skills in others. The position is remote but requires regular domestic travel.
Key Responsibilities:
Change Agent: Partner with hourly and salaried personnel at production sites to identify and implement process, people, and equipment improvement opportunities.
Asset Performance: Coordinate and lead efforts to optimize asset performance, including collaboration with third-party support and internal resources.
New Installations: Support the installation, commissioning, and optimization of new or upgraded paper-making assets.
Improvement Prioritization: Assist asset owners in managing and prioritizing improvement opportunities based on business needs.
Standardization: Work with Subject Matter Experts, capability teams, and operations personnel to develop standardized operating and maintenance strategies.
Mentorship: Provide technical and professional mentoring to hourly, salaried engineering, and operations personnel at local facilities and within the corporate engineering team.
Outage Planning: Assist in planning specific outage activities with operations teams to ensure desired results.
Technical Support: Apply Subject Matter Expertise to support short-term technical requests across multiple facilities.
Technology Trials: Support trials of new process technology and equipment, providing assessments of applicability to existing assets.

Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Pulp and Paper Science, or a related technical field.

Experience:
Minimum of 10 years in a manufacturing leadership role supporting paper-making operations.
Experience with paper machine applications.
5+ years in a production or optimization role with a proven ability to deliver results.
Experience with PI ProcessBook or comparable data historian for identifying opportunities.
Previous work experience in technical design or service capacity related to paper-making.

Knowledge of paper-making equipment and processes, including drying systems, wet-end operations, stock preparation, controls, and winder/roll handling.
Ability to read and interpret piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID's), layout drawings, and mechanical drawings.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
Strong leadership, communication, and mentoring skills.
Experience using Root Cause Analysis strategies (e.g., KT, 5 Why).
Knowledge of paper-making equipment and processes, including drying systems, wet-end operations, stock preparation, controls, and winder/roll handling.
