Job Overview/Summary:

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse for the Labor and Delivery unit. This role is responsible for providing high-quality, patient-centered nursing care to mothers and newborns in a fast-paced acute care environment while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe and positive birth experiences.

Responsibilities:

Provide direct nursing care to laboring and postpartum patients and newborns

Monitor maternal and fetal status throughout labor and delivery

Assist physicians and midwives during deliveries and procedures

Educate patients and families on labor, delivery, recovery, and newborn care

Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to clinical protocols

Participate in emergency response and unit-specific competencies

Primary Skills:

Labor and Delivery Nursing

Acute Care Patient Management

Fetal Monitoring

Critical Thinking and Clinical Judgment

Patient and Family Education

Emergency Response

Secondary Skills (Good to Have):

Neonatal Resuscitation

Postpartum and Newborn Care

De-escalation Techniques

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required

Minimum of 1 year of nursing/patient care experience in an acute care setting required

Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Virginia Department of Health Professions or Compact State Licensure in Nursing required

BLS Certification required

ACLS, PALS, and NRP certifications as applicable to unit standards

New graduates or nurses new to the practice area have up to 1 year to complete specialty requirements
