Job Overview/Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Physician Coding Educator to support coding accuracy, compliance, and education initiatives across healthcare provider groups. The ideal candidate will have recent hands-on experience with professional (Profee) evaluation and management (E/M) coding in Family Practice, Internal Medicine, and/or Risk Adjustment environments. This position will ensure coding integrity while educating providers and coders in accordance with current guidelines and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Educate providers and coders on proper E/M coding practices based on clinical documentation

  • Review coding quality and provide feedback to improve accuracy and compliance

  • Support auditing efforts to ensure documentation supports submitted codes

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on coding regulations, payer requirements, and Risk Adjustment methodologies

  • Stay current on regulatory updates, including CMS and payer coding guideline changes

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement coding training tools and educational resources

  • Provide 1:1 or group educational sessions and workshops as needed

Primary Skills:

  • Extensive experience in professional fee (Profee) coding for Family Practice, Internal Medicine, and/or Risk Adjustment

  • Strong understanding of CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCC coding

  • Knowledge of current CMS and payer-specific coding guidelines

  • Ability to interpret and apply clinical documentation to accurate code assignment

  • Strong communication and presentation skills for both individual and group education

Secondary Skills (Good to Have):

  • Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems and coding platforms

  • Knowledge of HEDIS, STAR, and quality reporting programs

  • Previous experience in auditing or compliance roles

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of recent Profee E/M coding experience in relevant specialties (Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Risk Adjustment)

  • Current coding certification through AAPC (e.g., CPC, CRC) or AHIMA (e.g., CCS, RHIA, RHIT) — certification number must be provided

  • Strong attention to detail and high level of coding accuracy

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
