Job Overview/Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Optometrist to join our team. The role involves working closely with Orthoptists and Ophthalmologists in paediatric clinics, providing accurate eye examinations, interpreting complex refraction results, and offering tailored treatment advice to patients and families. The ideal candidate will have experience managing patients with complex needs and demonstrate a flexible, team-oriented approach.

Responsibilities:

  • Co-manage patients within paediatric clinics and jointly run optometrist/orthoptist clinics.

  • Provide core optometric services including subjective and objective refraction, fundus examination, and diagnostic refractions.

  • Accurately assess refractive status and Snellen/LogMAR visual acuity.

  • Analyse and interpret complex refraction results in collaboration with Orthoptists and Ophthalmologists.

  • Deliver clear optical advice to patients, parents, and carers regarding eye conditions, treatment options, and medications.

  • Adapt care to the needs of patients with amblyopia, squint, learning difficulties, or complex medical conditions.

  • Manage routine stable conditions and discharge patients in line with protocols.

  • Identify new or deteriorating conditions and escalate to consultants as appropriate.

  • Maintain focus under demanding clinical conditions and unplanned workload.

  • Contribute to service development by enhancing clinical skills and supporting extended roles.

Primary Skills:

  • BSc in Ophthalmic Optics or Optometry.

  • Active registration with the General Optical Council.

  • Strong skills in paediatric optometry and refraction.

  • Ability to provide patient-centered care and clear communication.

Secondary Skills (Good to Have):

  • Experience in extended optometry roles.

  • Familiarity with examining patients with complex needs or visual impairments.

  • Team-oriented with the ability to adapt to dynamic workloads.

Qualifications:

  • BSc in Ophthalmic Optics or Optometry.

  • Registration with the General Optical Council.

  • Willingness to undertake additional training as required.

  • Experience with OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography).

  • Experience in examining patients with AMD, diabetic retinopathy, and other retinal conditions.
