Job Overview/Summary:
The Mental Health Technician provides direct care and support to patients in a residential psychiatric or behavioral health setting. This role focuses on maintaining a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment while assisting patients with daily activities and treatment goals under clinical supervision.
Responsibilities:
Maintain therapeutic boundaries and professional distance with clients during and after treatment.
Support patients in daily routines and therapeutic activities.
Follow written treatment plans, policies, and procedures.
Communicate effectively with patients, families, and care team members.
Promote diversity, inclusion, and respect among patients, families, and coworkers.
Assist in crisis intervention and behavior management as trained.
Maintain a safe and structured environment at all times.
Primary Skills:
Verbal and written communication skills
Ability to manage and de-escalate patient behaviors
Understanding of therapeutic boundaries
Physical agility and stamina
Team collaboration and professionalism
Secondary Skills (Good to Have):
Experience in residential psychiatry or childcare facilities
Knowledge of behavioral health protocols
Cultural sensitivity and inclusiveness
Crisis prevention and restraint techniques
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED required
Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or related field preferred (higher wage potential)
Preferred: Six months of experience in residential psychiatry or similar childcare/behavioral health setting
Must pass Level 2 Background Screening (AHCA)
Must pass a pre-employment drug test
CPR Certification and Handle with Care training required within 7 days of employment
