Job Overview/Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Medical Laboratory Technologist to perform a wide range of laboratory testing procedures in support of accurate diagnosis and patient care. This role involves specimen collection, testing, quality control, equipment maintenance, and collaboration with clinical teams while adhering to regulatory and professional standards.

Responsibilities:

Collect and process blood specimens using approved phlebotomy techniques

Perform chemical, microscopic, and bacteriological testing using approved methodologies

Accurately label, process, and report laboratory test results in a timely manner

Communicate abnormal or critical findings promptly to appropriate clinical personnel

Maintain quality control standards and participate in proficiency testing programs

Perform calibrations, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory analyzers

Perform advanced testing procedures and assist with method development as assigned

Orient and train new staff and students on laboratory procedures and standards

Assume Lead Technologist responsibilities in their absence when required

Participate in rotating on-call coverage and work alternative shifts as needed

Provide age-appropriate care consistent with training, competencies, and policies

Complete required continuing education (minimum 12 hours annually) and maintain professional certification

Primary Skills:

Clinical laboratory testing (chemical, microscopic, bacteriological)

Phlebotomy and specimen handling

Quality control and regulatory compliance

Laboratory equipment operation and maintenance

Secondary Skills (Good to Have):

Advanced test procedure execution

Method development and validation

Staff training and mentoring

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree (BS or BA) in Medical Technology or a related field required

Current New York State license and registration as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist required

National certification (ASCP or equivalent) preferred

Experience:

Minimum of six (6) months of relevant clinical laboratory experience preferred
