Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technician

Job Overview/Summary: We are seeking a dedicated Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting, processing, and testing laboratory specimens across all patient types to aid in the diagnosis of diseases. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, adherence to quality control protocols, and proficiency with sophisticated testing equipment and computer systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine and complex laboratory tests on various biological specimens.

  • Operate and maintain a variety of laboratory instrumentation and equipment to assist physicians in diagnosing and treating diseases.

  • Prioritize and manage multiple test requests efficiently.

  • Adhere to all hospital and laboratory policies and procedures, including specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and record maintenance.

  • Communicate effectively with patients and families, addressing them appropriately based on age and level of understanding.

  • Report critical information to physicians or caregivers promptly, as per policy guidelines.

  • Participate in continuous improvement processes by providing input for procedural changes.

  • Perform other duties related to the laboratory as assigned or required by regulatory bodies.

Primary Skills:

  • Experience in a clinical laboratory setting, with recent experience in multiple laboratory disciplines preferred.

  • Proficiency in performing high-complexity testing.

  • Strong understanding of laboratory regulations and quality control standards.

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software.

Secondary Skills (Good to Have):

  • Experience working with all levels within an organization.

  • Prior experience in the healthcare industry.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or coursework defined by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).

  • Certification or eligibility for certification by ASCP at the Technologist level, or equivalent certification through AMT. Certification must be obtained within 12 months from the start date in the position.

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
