Job Overview/Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Maternity Support Worker to join our healthcare team. Working under the direction of registered midwives, the successful candidate will participate in the delivery of high-quality midwifery care, supporting women and families throughout pregnancy, birth, and postnatal care. This role demands sensitivity, flexibility, and the ability to follow procedures in a dynamic clinical environment.
Responsibilities:

Support midwifery care including chaperoning, transferring patients, and providing 1:1 or group enhanced care

Perform clinical duties such as observations and phlebotomy (as per competency guidelines)

Organize daily workload when delegated

Support women with complex clinical or social needs in community or hospital settings

Provide assistance with infant feeding in line with local policy

Promote health initiatives such as:

Smoking cessation
-
Reducing obesity
-
Breastfeeding/infant feeding
-
Supporting mother-baby interaction
-
Supporting women with mental health needs
-

Escalate concerns to the midwife
-
Support hygiene, hydration, and nutrition for patients

Maintain clear communication with team members and families
-
Respect patient privacy, dignity, and cultural/religious beliefs

Maintain a clean, safe environment for all

Participate in obstetric emergencies and resuscitation under supervision

Document clearly and timely in women and baby records

Retrieve and manage results using phones, fax, computers, or in-person

Assist with consultations and examinations as appropriate

Collect, label, and dispatch specimens safely

Escort and guide patients within the facility

Adhere strictly to data protection and confidentiality protocols
Primary Skills:

Basic clinical skills including phlebotomy and patient observation

Ability to follow care plans and midwifery direction

Knowledge of hygiene, hydration, and nutritional support standards

Effective verbal and written communication

Ability to maintain accurate and timely documentation
Secondary Skills (Good to Have):

Experience supporting patients with mental health concerns

Training in infant feeding support

Understanding of cultural competency in healthcare

Familiarity with data protection regulations
Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent

Certified training as a Maternity Support Worker, Healthcare Assistant, or similar

Clinical competencies in line with organizational requirements

CPR or BLS certification (preferred)
