Job Overview/Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Kong Architect with deep expertise in API modernization, cloud migration, and API marketplaces. The ideal candidate will have 12+ years of experience in software engineering, including 5+ years in an API architecture role, with a strong focus on Kong API Gateway, AWS cloud services, and API marketplaces. This role requires hands-on development, infrastructure management, and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively to diverse audiences.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the modernization of legacy APIs to scalable, cloud-based solutions on AWS.
- Architect, implement, and manage Kong API Gateways and API marketplaces.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Drive API migration strategies to AWS Cloud, ensuring best practices in security, performance, and scalability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align technical solutions with business objectives.
- Provide hands-on coding and mentoring to engineering teams.
- Optimize API architectures for reusability, maintainability, and high performance.
- Identify technology gaps and opportunities for innovation in modern application development.
- Champion the operationalization of the Kong API Marketplace.
Primary Skills:
- 12+ years of experience in software engineering, with 5+ years in API architecture.
- Expertise in Kong API Gateway and AWS cloud services (API Gateway, Lambda, ECS).
- Strong background in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Proficiency in .NET and knowledge of modern programming frameworks.
- Hands-on experience in API modernization and migration.
- Deep understanding of authentication and MFA processes.
- Excellent communication skills to bridge technical and business teams.
- Ability to explain legacy vs. modern applications, including monolithic vs. microservices architectures.
Secondary Skills (Good to Have):
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect or similar certification.
- Experience with containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with .NET Core and Angular development.
- Understanding of Micro Frontends (MFE) architectures for UI applications.
- Prior experience with ForgeRock.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
