Job Title: Dog Therapy Handler

Job Overview/Summary:

Pulivarthi Group is seeking a compassionate and professional Dog Therapy Handler to join our healthcare and wellness partner team. The handler will conduct therapy dog visits at designated hospital or corporate wellness facilities, providing emotional comfort and stress relief to patients, employees, and visitors. This role is ideal for experienced handlers with certified therapy dogs who are passionate about supporting emotional well-being through animal-assisted interaction.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct therapy dog visits and rounds across assigned hospital or corporate wellness facilities.

  • Engage positively with patients, visitors, and staff to promote emotional support and comfort.

  • Ensure therapy dog behavior meets certification and facility standards at all times.

  • Maintain compliance with all health, vaccination, and safety regulations for therapy animals.

  • Collaborate with facility leadership and Employee Wellness teams to coordinate visitation schedules and special events.

  • Serve as an ambassador for the therapy dog program, promoting its values of compassion and wellness.

  • Uphold a professional demeanor and foster a calm, reassuring environment during all interactions.

Education Requirements:

  • GED or equivalent required.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Therapy Dog Certification for the dog-handler team from the Alliance of Therapy Dogs or another recognized organization (subject to approval by Employee Wellness Leadership).

  • Current vaccinations and health certifications for the therapy dog in compliance with hospital and state regulations.

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience handling or working with therapy dogs in a professional or volunteer setting (Required).

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in hospital, corporate wellness, or employee engagement programs (Preferred).

  • The therapy dog must have lived with the handler for a minimum of 6 months (Preferred).

  • Ownership of a certified therapy dog (Required). Note: Therapy dogs are not provided by the organization.

  • Deep empathy and strong interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to remain calm and patient in high-traffic or emotional environments.

  • Responsible and reliable handling of therapy animals.

  • Strong commitment to animal welfare and client comfort.

Additional Details:

  • All therapy dogs must maintain a friendly, calm disposition and meet minimum certification and behavioral standards.

  • The handler is responsible for maintaining all required documentation and certifications for the therapy dog.
