Job Overview/Summary:
The Infection Preventionist is responsible for leading efforts to prevent and control the spread of healthcare-associated infections by applying evidence-based practices and standards. The role involves surveillance, investigation, education, and consultation to ensure the safety of patients, staff, and visitors.
Responsibilities:

Conduct infection prevention and control surveillance activities

Analyze infection data and report trends

Develop and implement policies and protocols based on best practices

Educate staff on infection prevention and control practices

Lead investigations and interventions related to infection outbreaks

Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure compliance with regulatory standards

Serve as a subject matter expert on infection control and epidemiology
Primary Skills:

Patient care practices

Microbiology and aseptic technique

Disinfection/sterilization procedures

Epidemiology and infectious disease knowledge

Secondary Skills (Good to Have):

Experience using infection surveillance software

Familiarity with regulatory and accreditation requirements (e.g., CDC, OSHA, CMS, TJC)

Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or other healthcare specialty preferred

Entry-level IPs without a baccalaureate degree may qualify if certification is maintained

Minimum experience as a healthcare professional with a health sciences background

Demonstrated knowledge in infection control principles
