Job Title: Infection Preventionist

Job Overview/Summary:

The Infection Preventionist is responsible for leading efforts to prevent and control the spread of healthcare-associated infections by applying evidence-based practices and standards. The role involves surveillance, investigation, education, and consultation to ensure the safety of patients, staff, and visitors.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct infection prevention and control surveillance activities

  • Analyze infection data and report trends

  • Develop and implement policies and protocols based on best practices

  • Educate staff on infection prevention and control practices

  • Lead investigations and interventions related to infection outbreaks

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure compliance with regulatory standards

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on infection control and epidemiology

Primary Skills:

  • Patient care practices

  • Microbiology and aseptic technique

  • Disinfection/sterilization procedures

  • Epidemiology and infectious disease knowledge

  • Program administration

  • Staff training and adult education

  • Effective communication and collaboration

Secondary Skills (Good to Have):

  • Experience using infection surveillance software

  • Familiarity with regulatory and accreditation requirements (e.g., CDC, OSHA, CMS, TJC)

  • Public health experience

  • Data analysis and report writing

Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or other healthcare specialty preferred

  • Entry-level IPs without a baccalaureate degree may qualify if certification is maintained

  • Minimum experience as a healthcare professional with a health sciences background

  • Demonstrated knowledge in infection control principles
