Job Title: Health Unit Coordinator

Job Overview/Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Health Unit Coordinator to join our team. The ideal candidate will efficiently manage administrative and clinical support tasks to ensure smooth daily operations within the healthcare unit. This role requires excellent communication, organizational skills, and the ability to provide compassionate support to patients and healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities:

  • Answer telephone and patient call systems promptly using proper etiquette.

  • Greet and assist visitors, patients, staff, and physicians.

  • Answer inquiries and/or refer to appropriate resources.

  • Communicate effectively with other departments, patients, families, and coworkers.

  • Enter and transmit discharges, transfers, and telemetry monitoring (if applicable).

  • Notify consulting physicians and providers as instructed.

  • Scan reports and health records into the Electronic Medical Record.

  • Requisition supplies as designated.

  • Assist with patient/visitor requests, stocking, cleaning, and safety checks.

  • Respond to basic patient needs (e.g., assisting with bathroom, repositioning, and daily living tasks).

Additional Responsibilities for Lead Health Unit Coordinator:

  • Work closely with leadership to provide input on improvements.

  • Assist leadership with department supply needs.

  • Train new Patient Care Associates in the Health Unit Coordinator role.

  • Provide employee education.

Primary Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficient in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.

  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.

  • Basic patient care assistance skills.

Secondary Skills (Good to Have):

  • Experience with telemetry monitoring.

  • Familiarity with basic dysrhythmia certification.

  • Previous leadership or training experience.

Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.

  • Previous experience in a medical/healthcare setting preferred.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire.

  • Basic dysrhythmia certification required for telemetry monitoring assignments.
